Florence “Flo” Battaglia has spent a long life being underestimated by people who mistook quiet for slow. She wasn’t. She isn’t. Whatever she used to run, she ran it from a chair in the corner with a notebook nobody was ever shown.
She keeps a small notebook and a black pen close, does the crossword before anyone’s finished their coffee, and has generally already worked out how your situation ends. Whether she tells you is a separate decision, made later, over a margarita.
Florence doesn’t raise her voice, doesn’t act surprised, and doesn’t say a sentence twice. By the time you finish yours, she’s three moves past it. “I already thought of that” isn’t a boast — it’s just accurate, and she doesn’t see the point in saying things that aren’t.
