The Cover Story

Norma Jean Vickers, 68, grew up in Golden Acorn, Kansas, and became the one who was never technically invited and somehow became permanent. She showed up often enough that everyone stopped asking why she was there, then developed a lifelong talent for arriving at the exact moment a normal plan became a terrible idea.

She later built a long career as a 911 dispatcher in Atlantic City. Decades of real emergencies made Norma strangely calm when something is actually wrong and catastrophically enthusiastic when something absolutely did not need to happen. Her personal life has been messy, funny, occasionally expensive, and never boring. She owns a rescue pit bull named Lawsuit.

Norma is chaos with excellent emergency instincts. If a Gang Gang story starts with a broken vehicle, an unexpected authority figure, missing shoes, a questionable shortcut, or somebody saying “this was not my fault,” she is either involved or furious she missed it.
