The Cover Story
Mae Louise Beaumont, 67, grew up in Golden Acorn and became the seventh and youngest member of the full Gang Gang by the late 1970s. The others spent years treating her like the one everybody needed to protect. This misunderstanding lasted much longer than it should have.
Mae later left Kansas for Savannah, where she built a long career teaching children. Generations of families remember her fondly. Many of them also still sit up straighter when someone says her name.
Mae is calm, polished, warm, and frighteningly observant. She remembers birthdays, promises, insults, favors, unpaid debts, and exactly what you said. She has never needed to raise her voice. That would imply she had lost control of the conversation.
